salt. collecting the salt is hard work, and many still rely on it as a source of income. but it's sold dirt cheap, so it's not much of a living. which is why the lac rose as a tourist attraction is important. though it really isn't touristy at all, in the sense that we think of it, unless you count the two travelling artists that set up shop on the ground behind us while we enjoyed the view.
