The Sheppersons are big meat fans. In one evening, I partook of tuna steak, lamb-and-hamoulli (sp.?) skewers, and some deliciously fresh sausage. Then I got a stomachache and remembered why I normally look to cottage cheese or beans for protein.

My mother got in touch with old friends of the family near London less than a week before I was to depart the country; they offered to host me and did a bang-up job of it. The use of a dark, quiet bedroom, after a late night of paper-writing, by itself would have made the trip worthwhile.
But no! They put on a feast for me, showed me London (bus tour, St. Paul's, "The Producers"), and allowed me to relax in their home for a whole weekend before my transatlantic journey.
