Preview: First Glass Sculpture Construction: Core Interior  -  Though I had designed my sculptures with metal in mind as a material, I decided that I could begin work immediately if I used glass as the working material. This means that I am not 'sculpting' at all but, rather, am assembling the object from hundreds of glass pieces. This has actually made the whole process that much more challenging and enjoyable... because now I get to combine engineering with art. In assembling this work, I'm creating a free-standing structure that has a form that combines both form and function. Every piece -- from the 'honeycomb' in the interior to the external surface -- has both an aesthetic and structural purpose. Though time-consuming and both labor and intellectually intensive, this process is about as rewarding as every other art project I have ever started combined.

I want to keep the overall shape hidden until I'm finished (so as to have greater impact), but I thought I'd show a few close-ups of the lower base exterior. Some shots were taken with a flash. I'm sure the Beckmessers on Plans will enjoy tearing this apart in threads with titles like, "The Dinnerville Question: How His Glass Artwork Shows him to be a Horrible Person".
